Configurations

The Configuration module shows postgresql.conf file and automatically suggests optimal values. Let’s see the available functionality.

Color designation of the parameter.

There can be 4 colors:

  • White means default value.
  • Green means that the parameter has been changed and took effect.
  • Yellow means that the parameter has been changed, but a reload is required.
  • Red means that the parameter has been changed, but a restart is required.

Alert symbol (number 1 in the figure above) will be visible only if some parameter requires restart of the PostgreSQL.

The RECOMMENDED VALUES column (number 1 in the figure above) will provide recommended parameters for the Postgres configuration. Recommendations provided for 80 to 100 parameters, depending on PostgreSQL versionThis button provides the opportunity to apply all our recommended parameters.

Button selected by number 2 in the figure above inserts all existing recommended values to the current values column.

Those buttons (2 and 3) still does not make change in config file.

The user can independently enter the desired parameter. Just click on the pencil button (number 1 in the figure above).

There are three types of window for changing a parameter:

For an enum type parameter there will be a selection with possible options.

For numerical parameters we will validate the numbers range. 

String parameter is free text

Each parameter has its own description. It is called when you click on the information.It looked like this:

For changes to take effect you need to click on Apply. After clicking, a window pops up with a complete list of desired changes.

In this window you see old value, new value and pending required. If the value is pending for reload (number 1 in the figure above) – so it will be applied automatically by Awide, after clicking on “Apply and Reload Database” (number 3 in the figure above). No downtime is expected in this case. 

If the value is pending restart (number 3 in the figure above) – press “Apply and Reload Database” button and then restart Postgres using CLI window

Configuration parameters can be filtered (number 1 in the figure above)  and searched

You can filter by status (number 2 in the figure above) :

  • DEFAULT
  • RECOMMENDED
  • CHANGED APPLIED
  • CHANGED PENDING RELOAD
  • CHANGED PENDING RESTART

You can filter by category. (number 3 in the figure above)  For example: Autovacuum, Client Connection Defaults / Shared Library Preloading, Customized Options etc.
